Monthly Dues Increase, Effective December 1, 2009

Dear PSSC Members:

As you know, decisions had to be made for the team on how to come up with extra money to balance our budget after the pool increased our rates substantially, effective November 1, 2009.  We sent out a survey and received 14 responses.

The survey asked members to rate which options they preferred for raising the money our team needs:  fundraising, business sponsorship, or monthly due increases.  Only 2 responses favored fundraising, the rest were split between business sponsorship and monthly due increases.  There were many comments that were made, and were considered by your board members.

We  surveyed other local teams and found that our rates, (even after the  increases), are still less expensive and our swimmers have more time in the water. After discussion, it was decided that the monthly dues will be increased.

Monthly training rates will increase as follows, effective December 1, 2009:
Splash session will be $55 (from $45),
Novice will be $70 (from $65),
Age Group 1 will be $80 (from $70),
Age Group 2 will be $100 (from $80),
Senior 1 will be$120 (from $95),
Senior 2 will be $125 (from $100)
High School Fitness will be $95 (from $80)

Sponsorship Option
The board, also recognizes the challenges that will result from raising the rates for some of our families.  We voted to offer an individual Sponsorship Option for the increase of rates, and if members choose this, their dues will be the same as they are now, without increases for the 2009-2010 swim year.  In order to utilize the option, the member must generate sponsorship money in the amount of $250 for the swim year of 2009-2010.  Sponsorship Option money must be received by the 15th for application to the new monthly training fees.

The rate increases are intended for the current swim year, however, they may also be utilized next year (2010-2011), without an Sponsorship Option provision, depending on the budget forecasts for the 2010-2011 swim year.

The board closely reviewed our annual budget and found ways to cut costs to reduce the burden of the budget shortage.  Cost cutting measures include: temporarily  suspending the purchase of champ and higher level meet t-shirts for members, asking (not requiring) our board members, officials and coaches to pay the USA Registration fee of $56 that is required of their volunteer positions, and also to temporarily cut capital expenses by 50% in the next swim year.

If a member chooses the Sponsorship Option, their sponsorship must be received by the 15th of the month, so that their rates will go back to previous levels.  If Sponsorship money is not received by the 15th of December, the higher rate will apply for month of December, however, if the money is received by January 15th, the lower training rate will apply for the month of January.

Please review the sponsorship package on our team web site (click on Parent Resources, then Misc Forms).

We recognize that we have a very strong swim team and that our team will survive the challenges that we’ve be faced with increased costs and lower membership.  If we all work together to promote our team, to invite our friends and classmates to join, we can let others know what we already do - PSSC is the best swim club around!!!

Thank you,
Your PSSC Board
