Puget Sound Swim Club (PSSC) offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the PSSC to offer specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities. PSSC is a proud member of Pacific Northwest Swimming and USA Swimming. Annual registration with these organizations is required in order to join our team.
POOL: All of our practices occur at South Kitsap High School Community Pool, 425 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard. The pool is located on lower campus adjacent to the tennis courts.
Novice is for the swimmer who has passed Splash or has equivalent skills and may be ready to try competition. Practice will focus on learning all four competitive strokes, starts and finishes, flip turns and diving.
Training Days/Times: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4:30-5:30 PM.
Age Group 1
From Novice, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, start and turn technique. The objectives of this group are to learn all rules of competitive swimming, become comfortable competing at swim meets and build aerobic endurance while maintaining proper technique.
Training Days/Times: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4:30-6:00 PM.
Dry land training may be attended at coach’s discretion on training days: 4:00-4:30 PM.
Age Group 2
From Age Group 1, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the move-up and training skills lists. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.
• 200 Freestyle with flip turns and bilateral breathing
• 200 Backstroke with flip turns and bent anchor arm action
• 200 Breaststroke with correct underwater pullouts
• 100 Butterfly with fins and correct turns
• 100 Individual Medley (IM) with correct turns
• Competition racing starts
• Correct finishes on the four competition strokes
• 100 Freestyle
• 50 Freestyle
• 100 Breaststroke
• 50 Breaststroke
• 100 Backstroke
• 50 Backstroke
• 100 IM
• 200 Freestyle
• 200 IM
Workout Days/Times: Monday through Friday, 4:30-6:00 PM; Dry land training: M-F, 4:00-4:30 PM.
Senior 1 Group
From Age Group 2, athletes entering this group must display a desire to train on amore committed basis. Attendance to all practices needed. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group.
• 10 X 100 Freestyle on 2:15 with correct turns
* 10 X 100 IM on 2:45 with correct turns
• 4 x 200 IM on 3:45 (11-12)
• 7 x 100 Kick on 2:10 (11-12)
• 100 Freestyle at 1:15 or better
• 100 Backstroke at 1:25 or better
• 100 Breaststroke at 1:35 or better
• 200 IM at 2:55 or better
Equipment: Kickboard, swim fins, pull-buoy, and hand paddles (optional). (Except paddles, usually available at the pool to borrow during practice)
Workout Days/Times: Monday - Friday, 4:30-6:00 PM, dry land 4:00-4:30 PM, plus select Saturdays 8:30-10:00 AM;
Dry land training: M-F, 4:00-4:30 PM.
